The Love of the Heavenly Father
It seemed to me I’d stumbled badly,
And there was only dark ahead,
But then another door swung open —
Light flooded in, and spring instead!
A spring of happiness past dreaming,
And once again a voice inside:
“You have forgotten I’m almighty —
Will a father not forgive his child?
He’ll forgive, give shelter and salvation,
And be right there, as always, as before;
Now you are a brand-new creation —
You and I are family evermore!”
They tell us when and where to pray and how,
But rites and sacrifices passed away with ages gone.
The Lamb’s own sacrifice alone can help us now
To turn and take the Father’s love from heaven’s throne!
The love of Heaven’s past all knowing, and so fair!
How could One take the guilt of all, and die…
And all we need is to agree with it right there,
To live by faith, to take our wings and fly!
And however many times you fall along the way,
Let only God’s voice in your heart resound;
Look at the Cross and let your doubts give way —
Love won’t forsake you; you’ll be forgiven, found!
