Sin Leading to Death

[1 Jhn.5:16-17]

If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

Why did Simon not perish?

Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip

[Act.5:3] But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled (Greek plēroō G4137, to fill completely) your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?”
(Slovo Zhizni, a modern Russian translation) Peter said to him, “Ananias, how could Satan take hold of your heart so far”
(Radostnaya Vest, a modern Russian translation) “Ananias!” Peter said to him. “How could it happen that Satan took possession of you“

Let us compare Ananias with Judas.

[Jhn.13:2] And supper being ended, the devil having already put (Greek ballō G906, to throw) it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,
[Jhn.13:27] Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered (Greek eiserchomai G1525, to go in) him.

[Jhn.17:12] While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

Peter lied, betrayed and denied Jesus, but he did not perish. Can Satan take possession of a Christian’s heart so that he commits a sin leading to death? No.

[1 Jhn.4:4] He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
